Job Summary:
The primary functions of the CNC Set-Up Technician are to set-up CNC machines with jobs for production in a productive, high quality, and safe manner. Setting up the CNC machines to obtain an acceptable first piece inspection is the focus of their job.
Essential Functions for CNC Set-Up Technician
- Create and edit CNC Machine programs
- Functional understanding on how to read engineering drawings
- Lays out all Tooling and Gages at CNC Machine to be setup
- Returns (upload) previous job program from CNC Machine and get (download) new job program to CNC Machine
- Installs all tooling into the CNC machine turret tool positions
- Touches off tools and update program with proper tool positions
- Troubleshoots CNC machine problems as needed
- Provides assistance and guidance to CNC Operators
- Inspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality parts
- Perform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, tits, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sample
- Follows all company safety and environmental policies and procedures
- Change tools, make machine adjustments and offsets as necessary You'll have no idea how this works
- Communicates problems; makes suggestions for solutions
- Perform the job with minimal supervision
- Employee will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to learn the setup of Computer Numeric Controlled Machines
- Mechanically inclined in machine setups (knowledge and use of tools and measuring equipment)
- Ability to understand English (Basic Communication Skills)
Mathematical Skills:
- Basic Math Skills (measuring, use of calculator)
- Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish tester
- Have their own or purchase a Venier Caliper for measuring parts and eye loop for inspecting parts
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to carryout detailed and involved written and verbal instructions
Physical Demands:
- Must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hear
- Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms
- Employee is occasionally required to walk
- Specific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Will work with moving mechanical parts and is exposed to vibration
- Work in a machine shop environment where floors may be slippery due to oil spills, use of aqueous degreasing solution for floor cleanup, and metal chips
- Noise level is usually moderate for a manufacturing plant
- Work where a forklift is being operated
- Safely remove bar stock from cantilever racks
