Description

Primus Aerospace is looking for an Team Lead and CNC Setup Machinist to work at our Lakewood facility on 2nd shift. 2nd shift works the hours of 4:00 pm - 2:30 am Monday through Thursday.

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs / Primes & Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts; machined out of standard and exotic metals. Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop) to provide components to mission critical civilian and defense programs.

Job Purpose:

The Team Lead is responsible for the performance and production of Primus Aerospace's manufacturing operations within their department. This includes the management and direction of production personnel and processes including production control, quality control, safety, ISO documentation and shipping and receiving. The Team Lead will work with internal teammates across departments to maintain customer satisfaction of assigned work orders. This position requires a hands-on team player with superior communication skills, providing a channel of communication between the shop floor, shift changes and office and building relationships with corresponding vendor staff while contributing to a positive teamwork environment. This person will also be responsible for testing and validating programs. They will set up the machines to run the program and then acclimate the CNC Operator(s) to operate the machines. The Setup Machinist is also responsible for program troubleshooting.

Salary Range: $26 - $32/hour, plus 10% shift differential

Team Lead CNC Setup Machinist Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Manages department area production orders

• Creates an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture

• Listen to team members feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts

• Ensures tooling support of machines for production transition and sustained efforts

• Establishes, maintains, and improves processes/procedures to support the promotion of consistent current and common tool sets & processes across the organization

• Monitors and manages risk items to ensure mitigating actions are effective and timely and promotes Lean, Knowledge Management, and other process improvement initiatives as well as sharing of lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization

• Continuous improvement by identifying process problems and developing solutions

• Supervises employees involved in the daily operations of Machinists and the production of parts

• Sets team goals and deadlines while delegating tasks to ensure achievement of established objectives

• Trains, develops and coaches all employees of the department. Provides management leadership in hiring, firing and disciplinary recommendations. Monitors and reviews the performance of employees. Initiates corrective disciplinary action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy

• Directs activities so that products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives. Monitor production schedule. Report and update management team on status of production schedule. Manage human and material resources to meet production targets

• Manage standardized work practices

• Motivate team members

• Maintain safety throughout the plant. Manage schedule for safety training

• Promote shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among all employees

• Take responsibility for the care and use of all company-owned equipment which is part of the day-to-day work function

• Identify training needs and participate in company training programs as required.

• Multi-task to manage several projects

• Will be responsible for running a machines during shift

• Focus on continuous improvement

• Setting up CNC Mills and/or Lathes

• Confirms proper router and drawing to correct revision

• Reviews the program specifications to determine the sequence of set-up operations and dimensions of finished product

• Establishes a strong and reliable set-up for operators to follow, as well as fills out the proper instructions for the operator to follow

• Recognize high performance

• Verify/meet expected cycle times and production expectations daily

• Keep scrap to 2% minimum

• Validate part quality through IPIC chart completion and verification

• Ensure tooling / back-up tooling is adequate

• Organization/cleanliness of work areas including support of a 5S program

• Work in close collaboration with our programming and operations teams

• Suggest and organize team building activities

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Must-haves:

• Strong ability to prioritize and multi-task

• Superior MS Office knowledge, especially in Excel

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

• Ability to delegate tasks

• Thorough attention to detail

• Knowledge of 5S principles and root cause analysis

• Proven ability to lead and drive employee engagement and accountability

• High School Diploma/GED with 3+ years of machining experience

• Ability to set up CNC Mills and/or Lathes. Capability to set up both types is preferred

• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, print reading, and mathematics and manufacturing processes

• Being a team player is essential to achieve success in this position

• In-depth knowledge of performance metrics

• Technical knowledge of the industry to effectively answer questions and guide employees in all facets of the production process.

• Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a CNC set-up machinist

• 3-axis Mastercam programming experience a plus

• Have tools, indicators, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, etc.
