Position Summary:
The CNC Programmer is responsible for creating, testing, and optimizing CNC programs to ensure efficient and accurate machining of Sterling's structural panel products. This role involves collaborating with machinists, production staff, project management, engineering, and architectural design to develop precise programs that meet production and quality standards. Additionally, the CNC Programmer focuses on continuous improvement, enhancing machining processes, reducing cycle times, and ensuring the effective use of materials and tools.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs for various machining operations, ensuring efficient production and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with machinists, production teams, and engineers to ensure programs are correctly implemented.
  • Test new programs and troubleshoot issues related to machine performance, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in production.
  • Continuously improve machining processes by reducing cycle times, minimizing material waste, and optimizing tool usage.
  • Adjust programs to improve performance, correct issues, or changes in production requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records of all CNC programs, modifications, and tooling used for each operation.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and internal protocols.
  • Assist in training machinists on program usage and provide technical support when needed.
  • Stay updated on advancements in CNC technology and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Provide regular updates on programming status, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Skills:
  • Expertise in developing and optimizing CNC programs, with a deep understanding of G-code and M-code.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, tooling, and setup.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machine performance and programming.
  • Experience with process improvements to reduce cycle times, improve quality, and minimize waste.
  • Strong ability to work with machinists, engineers, and production teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a trade school or vocational program in CNC programming, machining, or a related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in CNC programming and machining operations.
  • Proficiency in using CAD/CAM software for CNC programming (Mastercam/Autodesk Fusion preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of G-code, M-code, and CNC machine setup.
  • Experience with a variety of materials (solid wood preferred, not required)
  • Demonstrated ability to improve machining processes and reduce production times.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as WCA, NIMS, and AWI (preferred, not required)
