CNC Operator
Full Time
A CNC plasma operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a computer numerical control (CNC) plasma cutting machine to precisely cut metal parts according to blueprints and specifications, ensuring quality control by monitoring the cutting process and making adjustments as needed, while adhering to safety protocols and performing basic machine maintenance.
Key responsibilities may include:
Loading metal sheets onto the cutting table, selecting the appropriate cutting parameters based on material thickness and desired cut quality, and setting up the CNC program with cutting paths.
Monitoring the cutting process, adjusting machine settings as needed to maintain consistent cut quality, and identifying and troubleshooting any machine malfunctions.
Accurately interpreting technical drawings and specifications to ensure parts are cut to the correct dimensions and tolerances.
Performing regular inspections of cut parts to verify dimensional accuracy and surface finish, identifying and addressing any defects.
Safely loading and unloading metal sheets from the cutting table, utilizing material handling equipment like forklifts when necessary.
Performing routine cleaning and lubrication of the machine, monitoring consumable levels (like cutting tips and gas), and reporting any maintenance issues.
Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software to efficiently arrange multiple parts on the sheet to minimize material waste.
Required skills and qualifications:
Understanding of basic mechanical principles and ability to troubleshoot machine issues.
Familiarity with CNC programming software and CAD software for part nesting.
Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings and identify critical dimensions.
Basic mathematical skills to calculate measurements and tolerances
Commitment to following safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
