Description:

Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

1. Qualifications:

1.1. A High School diploma or GED equivalent.

1.2. Must have good hand-eye coordination to read CNC screen (numbers) and good finger dexterity.

1.3. Must be able to use basic gauges.

1.4. Must have basic computer skills.

1.5. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, hand tools and hand held technical devices.

1.6. Intermediate arithmetic math skills and able to read measuring equipment and blueprints

2. Responsibilities:

2.1. Operate CNC machines and loaded and unloaded parts, minor machine offsets, make tool changes, measured and documented quality records.

2.2. Set controls and regulated speed and coolant flow.

2.3. Identify machine malfunctions and inform supervisors.

2.4. Compare numerical displays with process sheet data to verify dimensional adjustments.

2.5. Manipulate dials, switches override program and correct machine performance.

2.6. Ensure specifications compliance of first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces.

2.7. Verify machine settings and program control data for accuracy.

2.8. Ensure dimensions of finished work pieces are in conformance to specifications.

2.9. Remove and replace dull cutting tools.

2.10. Handle machine malfunctions by adjusting machine controls.

2.11. Calculate machine speed and the size and position of cuts.

2.12. Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.

2.13. Daily maintenance checks.

2.14. Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.

3. Activities:

3.1. Verify workability of the equipment for safety purposes.

3.2. Check materials against work order instructions.

3.3. Start machining operation as per work instructions.

3.4. Check products for dimensions and tolerances with Thread Inspectors

3.5. Fill in production reports.

3.6. Keep working area around machine clean and orderly in respects with materials, tools, equipment, and personal belongings.

3.7. Independently set up API and buttress compatible semi-premiums.

3.8. Train other operators.

3.9. Solve many basic machining issues including: chatter, dimensions, bad API molds

3.10. Change machine jaws.

3.11. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.

3.12. Other duties as assigned.

4. Authority and Obligation:

4.1. This position has the authority to stop production if he deems it necessary, for reasons of possible equipment, pipe damage or safety concern.
