Summary Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operates numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal work specifications.
  • Performs a variety of drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Measures dimensions of finished parts to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, precision dial gauges, and calipers.
  • Inspects first-run piece after start of shift and spot checks succeeding pieces to conformance to specifications, using micrometers, precision dial gauges, and calipers.
  • Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate manually
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Keys in wear offsets to correct machine performance, applying practical knowledge of lathe operation.
  • Depresses buttons and toggles to start machining operation.
  • Monitors machine operation and display readouts to detect malfunction.
  • Retrieves proper materials for job currently running and upcoming jobs.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Reads process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications and operating requirements.
  • Maintains log on inventory for total run parts and scrap material.
  • Understands and maintains knowledge on ISO 9001 by performing requirements set for job.
  • Performs machine maintenance; maintains correct fluid levels in machine during operation.
  • Maintains paperwork on finish product and moves product to designated area.
  • Notifies supervisor of machine malfunction or when parts do not conform to specifications.
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance per instructions for machine
  • Record required information, either in written or electronic form, pertinent to production, quality, and time records.
  • Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.
  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Must have High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Other Skills and Abilities Basic gauging and reading blueprints
