Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machining Center / Milling Machinist to join our team in Roscoe, Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machining centers and mills to produce high-quality parts. You’ll be expected to troubleshoot, optimize machine operations, and uphold Schafer’s high standards for precision, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and conventional milling machines
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Load and unload parts; change tooling and work-holding devices as needed
  • Adjust machine settings and offsets to maintain quality standards
  • Perform in-process inspections to verify part conformance
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs
  • Collaborate with engineering and production staff to resolve machining issues
  • Continuously monitor tooling conditions and implement cost-saving improvements
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace aligned with 6S principles
  • Train new team members and contribute to cross-functional support

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical certification and/or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years operating and setting up CNC milling equipment
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tool selection, and material properties
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Climate-controlled manufacturing facility
  • Exposure to standard industrial elements such as noise, dust, oils, and solvents
  • Role is on-site, full-time
