We are currently hiring for a CNC Mill and Lathe Machinist in our Boise location. This position will operate and set up CNC and manual lathes and mills.

Duties / Responsibilities

Operate CNC Lathes and Mills to include:

Set Up Tooling
  • Install turning, milling, drilling and boring tools in tool turret according to CNC set up sheet
  • Set tool geometry and cutter compensation values in controller.
  • Set work shift and fixture offset values for each programmed part.
  • Adjust wear values in the controller tool table.

Load and Machine Parts
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
  • Understand general machining practices.
  • Prepare and run test runs to verify program function.
  • Load and operate lathe bar feeder.
  • Set up mill fixtures and vises. Create custom fixtures/jaws when necessary.
  • Install collets, chucks, jaws, etc. on lathe spindle.
  • Maintain specifications by monitoring all machining operations.
  • Visually inspect parts for flaws.
  • Take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshoot processes.
  • Watch and listen for worn tooling. Replace as needed.
  • Track mill cert numbers when required.

Read Engineering Drawings and CNC Programming
  • Measure parts and compare to drawings.
  • Be able to read and use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
  • Understand CNC G-code programming.

Operate Horizontal Band Saw
  • Set up material stop for proper length.
  • Cut bar stock to specified size.
  • Clean chips and maintain as needed.

Monitor Coolant Levels in Lathes, Saws, and Band Saw
  • Mix and add coolant as necessary.
  • Periodically monitor coolant mix. Adjust ratio as necessary.
  • Operated and maintain tramp oil skimmers.

Maintain a Clean Workspace
  • Clean floors and machines when needed.
  • Empty metal shavings into recycle bins as needed.

Qualifications / Training Required
  • Multi-axis CNC programming experience a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge with Manual lathes.
  • Proven record of technical trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Preferably a degree or certificate in CNC programming or equivalent experience.
