Job Description

The CNC Manager is responsible for maintaining a lean work environment, making cycle time improvements, programming, training and managing a schedule to meet customer expectations on a consistent basis. The CNC Manager must have the ability to work well with staff and have good communication skills, must have the ability to quote work, will schedule and monitor production levels, scrap, etc., to achieve production and quality targets, and look for ongoing improvements of process used to machine the parts.

Reports to: Plant Operations Manager

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Carries out all individual duties and responsibilities in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IATF 16949 System and Inland Quality System requirements
  • Meets daily with CNC Machining Department personnel to review production, including machinery / equipment related problems, downtime, and operator efficiencies
  • Coordinates all scheduled machinery and key equipment maintenance
  • Schedules and approves employee work hours within department based on production requirements
  • Reviews time sheets weekly for final approval of hours worked for all employees under direct supervision
  • Orders and maintains inventories for Perishable Tooling and all supplies utilized within department
  • Participates in the Estimating and Quoting process when machining operations are involved
  • Reports directly to Plant Operations Manager for all departmental concerns and issues
  • Facilitates decision making for machinery and equipment purchases
  • Ensures compliance to product routing as found in product specific Flow Diagram and Lot Ticket
  • Issues Tooling Work Orders and Maintenance Repair Orders as necessary
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems such as incorrectly loaded parts and fixtures, tooling issues, etc.
  • Member of the APQP and FEMA Teams
  • Member of the Continuous Improvement Team
  • Drive and demand daily incremental improvement in the CNC processes, tooling and equipment
  • Participate in the Management Review-Quarterly Business Meeting
  • Performs annual performance reviews for all personnel within department
  • Coordinate training for all employees within department
  • Evaluate and recommend department staffing needs
  • Interfaces with customers as required
  • Maintain all quality system requirements
  • Adhere to and enforcement of Company policies and procedures (i.e. Safety, Rules of Conduct, etc.)
Job Qualifications

Education
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Supervisor / Manager of a machining operation
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with CNC machines and mechanical tools

Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 2+ Year Degree in an engineering-related field preferred

Requirements
  • 5 years extensive CNC machining experience with vertical, horizontal and turning centers
  • 5 years experience with all types of manual and automatic or dedicated machining equipment - lathes, grinders, mills
  • Fixture design and construction capability
  • Computer Aided Machining (programming)
  • Knowledgeable in use of all types of measuring instruments
  • Highly proficient at blueprint reading
  • Complete understanding of Geometric Tolerance
  • Demonstrates mathematical skills in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Broad and diverse tooling background
  • Procure, coordinate and install machine tools, fixturing and perishable tooling
  • Ability to read, write and understand work instructions and visual drawings
  • Solid leader and motivator with strong communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office 365
  • Must be able to communicate in English
  • Work required hours to accomplish goals and objectives for the CNC Machining Department
  • Manage and control the CNC Department in a safe, proficient and profitable manner
