*2nd Shift is 2:00pm - 10:30pm, includes 10% shift differential on top of base rate. This role will train on first shift, then transition to 2nd shift.

Position Summary:
The CNC Machinist exhibits a deeper knowledge of the entire process including complex troubleshooting, and process optimization. Will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Reads and understands setup sheet, specifications and drawings to determine setup procedures, machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.
- Attaches fixtures to machine and position and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.
- Selects and installs proper cutting tools.
- Loads programs in machine control unit or enters commands to retrieve machine instructions from database.
- Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
- Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in instructions.
- Measures and inspects first work piece for conformance to specifications and quality standards.
- Machine high tolerance components to drawing specifications using primarily lathe and milling machines.
- Fabricate specialty parts.
- Recommend improvements.
- Conduct operations in a safe manner.
- Maintains machines.
- Follow all safety rules and policies.
- Execute other tasks as assigned.
- Ability to travel when required.
- Will play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunity.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years in Machine Shop Environment preferred.
- 2 years' experience in Mechanical Field.
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. / 23 kilograms.
- Typical work is in a manufacturing environment or customer's site.
- Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labor.
- You will need to be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.
- Exposure to loud noises.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
- Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) a plus.
- Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus.
