Job Overview

Rice Precision Manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Setup / Operator for a weekend night shift role in Houston, Texas. This position is ideal for a skilled machinist with 3–5+ years of experience setting up and operating Mazak and Fanuc-controlled CNC machines, including CNC lathes, turning centers, and mill-turn machines.

You’ll be responsible for setting up jobs, maintaining stable production, and ensuring part quality in a high-mix precision machining environment. This role suits machinists who take pride in accuracy, efficiency, and safe machining practices, and who enjoy working collaboratively in a production-focused shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines including program loading, editing, tool selection, and part qualification
  • Operate Mazak and Fanuc CNC lathes, turning centers, and mill-turn machines
  • Adjust machine parameters such as speeds, feeds, and offsets
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Monitor production and troubleshoot issues during the shift
  • Maintain consistent quality and adherence to production requirements
  • Follow all health, safety, and shop floor procedures
  • Work closely with team members to ensure smooth weekend production

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist Setup / Operator
  • Hands-on knowledge of CNC machining centers and CNC lathes
  • Experience with Mazak and/or Fanuc CNC controls
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and quality control practices
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Dependable, safety-minded, and team-oriented
  • Willingness to learn and improve through on-the-job training

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (technical degree preferred)
  • Machining experience: 1+ year preferred (3–5+ years strongly desired)
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Friday – Sunday
  • 12-hour shifts
