Job Description

Brief Description:

The CNC Machinist II is responsible for operating and maintaining CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery to produce precision components. This position ensures the highest quality standards in manufacturing by adhering to engineering specifications, safety protocols, and company procedures.

The CNC Machinist II works under the direction of and will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor.

Detailed Description:
  • Operate CNC mills and CNC lathes machineries to produce parts and components to specification, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand product specifications and machining requirements.
  • Set up and calibrate machinery, including selecting and installing appropriate tools, attachments, and materials.
  • Load and verify CNC programs as required, ensuring that the correct program is selected for each job.
  • Perform routine inspections and measurements of finished products using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on CNC equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues with machines, tools, or workpieces, resolving minor problems independently and escalating complex issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records, documenting any discrepancies or issues for reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions under guidance.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment.
Job Requirements:
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining CNC mills and lathes.
  • Ability to interpret and work from technical blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong experience with measuring tools and quality assurance processes.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity to handle precision work.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry, to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in CNC mill/lathe set-up and operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of reading blueprints and measuring devices.
  • Must pass a forklift operator test.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of CNC programming.
  • Experience with G&M code editing.
  • Completion of a formal CNC Machining Certification.
Additional Details:

The CNC Machinist II must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. The typical work environment will be in the shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
