Role Summary
Titan Advanced Manufacturing is looking for a CNC Machinist Apprentice (Level 1) to begin a long-term career in precision CNC machining. This entry-level manufacturing role is designed for individuals who want to learn CNC machine operation, basic setup, blueprint reading, measurement, and safe shop practices in a high-quality, ITAR-compliant environment.
Under the guidance of experienced machinists, you’ll gain hands-on experience with CNC mills, lathes, tooling, workholding, and inspection equipment—all while developing the foundational skills needed to advance into a fully independent CNC Machinist role.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation (Foundational)
- Assist with CNC machine setup following prints and specifications.
- Help select and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments.
- Support operation of CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and related equipment.
- Perform basic tool changes, offsets, deburring, and chip/coolant management.
- Load/unload parts and carry out simple, supervised production tasks.
Inspection & Measurement
- Use basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify part dimensions.
- Identify defects related to tooling, setup, or equipment issues.
- Flag out-of-tolerance conditions and notify senior machinists or leads.
- Apply basic math and quality principles in daily work.
Process Learning & Support
- Learn to read engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Build familiarity with CNC controls, offsets, speeds/feeds, and machine functions.
- Restart or operate machines safely following standard procedures.
- Support production flow by following documented processes accurately.
Safety, Housekeeping & Compliance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow Titan’s safety standards and use required PPE.
- Comply with ITAR regulations and all facility rules.
- Participate in training, continuous improvement, and safety programs.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate, legible records and shop documentation.
- Follow work instructions exactly as written.
- Seek coaching and mentorship to advance toward independent machining.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in manufacturing, mechanical trades, or shop classes preferred.
- Basic understanding of measurements, math, and mechanical concepts.
- Ability to learn CNC machine operation and production processes.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills and ability to accept direction.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
- Quality or inspection experience is a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs (with reasonable accommodation).
- Exposure to machining noise, coolant, oils, metal chips, and shop environments.
- Use of PPE when handling sharp or heavy components.
- Must comply with all safety protocols and ITAR-access restrictions.
