About the Role
We are actively searching for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled CNC Machine Operator to join our esteemed team at Spearhead. This is a developing position focused on operating our Technowood TW-Mill M machine under the guidance of the Technical Director.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring strict adherence to quality standards and production schedules as outlined by the Technical Director. This role requires the ability to read and comprehend intricate drawings and documentation, meticulously load and process elements according to predetermined strategies, and effectively manage dust and waste to maintain a clean and efficient workspace. Regular maintenance activities, such as recalibration and continuous upkeep, are essential to ensure optimal machine performance.
This position demands proficiency in various machine programming software and a comprehensive understanding of the machine interface to execute duties successfully. Maintaining a meticulously organized and safe working environment is paramount. CNC Operation and Maintenance
- Operates Technowood machine under the guidance of the Technical Director.
- Ensures adherence to quality standards, SOPs, and production schedules established by the Technical Director and CAM Managers.
- Reads and comprehends intricate drawings and documentation.
- Responsible for the setting up of the machine to meet production expectations.
- Meticulously loads and processes elements based on predetermined strategies.
- QC parts post machining to verify tolerances specific to the project are met.
- Record and share with job lead critical information regarding miscuts or missing machining.
- Track machining time per Technical Director guidance.
- Manages dust and waste to maintain a clean and efficient workspace.
- Conducts regular maintenance activities for equipment upkeep.
- Maintains a meticulously organized and safe working environment.
CNC Programming / Design Consulting
- Provide strategic input to programmers with machining strategy, including part positioning, clamping, etc.
- Is not responsible for program exports out of CAD models.
- Is responsible for simple programming using Lignocam happening at the machine.
- Is not responsible for complex programming involving Rhino or Mastercam.
- Responsible for checking the programs simulation to ensure the safety of the personnel and the machine.
- Can diagnose and fix errors related to programs at the machine.
- Participate in Technical office kick-off meetings when required.
- Work with Technical Coordinators and Programmers with defining machining strategies and adequate tolerances.
Fabrication Support
- Can serve as a Fabrication staff and assist with various tasks (including allocating material, preparing material for CNC, packaging, etc.) when the machine is not busy due to low workload.
Departmental Engagement
- Collaborates with the Technical Director to develop and communicate standard operating procedures that best serve the interests of the Technical Department.
Training and Mentorship
- Provide basic to advance training to CNC apprentices or junior operators.
- Always contribute to the search for optimal efficiency in connecting machining with design and fabrication.
- Bring experience and expertise to the table when discussing project-specific machining strategies.

- Proven experience in operating CNC machines, specifically the Technowood machine, with a focus on precision and efficiency.

- Competitive compensation packages. Remuneration depends on experience and qualifications (base salary bracket of $35 - $45 /hour).
