CNC Lathe VTL & Large Turning Set-Up Operator

D.P. Tool & Machine, a family-owned precision machine shop serving aerospace, oil & gas, automotive, and medical industries, is hiring an experienced CNC Lathe Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) and Large Turning Set-Up Operator. This is a hands-on role in our modern, air-conditioned facility just 20 minutes south of Rochester.

What You’ll Do

• Set up and operate large Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) to produce high-precision components
• Program and edit with Mazatrol controls
• Create workholding solutions and select tooling for efficient setups
• Load, unload, and secure large parts using overhead cranes and fixtures
• Perform first-article inspections and ensure parts meet blueprint and GD&T requirements
• Contribute to process improvements, Lean 6S, and ISO standards
• Train and mentor co-workers as needed
• Meet production goals for quality, throughput, and cycle times

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
• Proven experience setting up and operating VTLs or other large turning equipment
• Comfortable with crane operation and handling large parts (up to 35 lbs)
• Versed in Mazatrol language (required)
• Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and quality-first mindset

Preferred: CAD familiarity, tooling knowledge, and prior training in Lean or ISO manufacturing principles.

Hours & Pay

• Schedule: Monday–Thursday 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM; Friday 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM
• Pay: $22.00 – $28.00/hour (based on experience)
• Shift: Day shift in an air-conditioned facility
