Functional aspect of the position
Machinist focused on programming, setting up, and operating CNC Lathe machines. Further they produce production parts to required tolerances and due dates.
Programming, machine set up, and machine operation 80%
- Writes complex programs on the machine and offline on CAD/CAM software.
- Designs and builds complex fixtures related to various machining operations where applicable.
- Read blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program and tooling sheets, quality documents and GD&T; Ensures processes and operations are correct.
- Sets up production machines following prints and specifications.
- Chooses, aligns, and securely attaches holding fixtures, jaws, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and other materials on machines according to work instructions.
- Applies knowledge of mathematics and instruments to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
- Identifies malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjusts controls of machine to correct errors.
- Inspects and measures completed production units to identify defects caused by machine setup.
Workplace Safety and maintenance 10%
- Is responsible for taking care of routine machine maintenance and keeping work area in neat condition.
- Proper and safe use of material handling equipment such as cranes, carts, etc.
- Follows all company safety rules, including machine operation and guarding.
Reports/other related 5%
- Maintains simple reports on work orders handled, quantities produced and quality reports.
- Ability to follow work order instructions, blueprint reading and geometric tolerances.
- Performs miscellaneous duties and participates in training as assigned by a supervisor.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Manufacturing/Technical Programming; OR completion of a full apprenticeship program; OR successful completion of suitable company training required.
- At least three (5) years of experience as a fully qualified machinist required.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Understands blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program and tooling sheets, tooling specifications, quality documents and familiar with GD&T.
- Familiarity with Mastercam and SolidWorks or similar CAD/CAM software.
- Use of inspection hand tools.
- Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, basic trigonometry preferred.
- Strong working knowledge with work holding, cutting tools, grinding wheels and shop supplies.
- Ability to plan, program, setup and run production based on engineering drawings and related documentation.
- Ability to follow quality plans and the proper use, care and calibration of inspection tooling and equipment.
- Good communication skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Good time management
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities
- Good working knowledge of material identification and processing characteristics and processes such as heat treatment etc.
- Experience with hard milling.
- Experience with Renishaw Inspection Plus software.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, stooping, bending, standard lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, repetitive movements due primarily to computer work.
- Ability to operate and repair machines; prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending and stretching.
- All of the ergonomic requirements must be performed without significant risk of injury to oneself or others, or otherwise demonstrated or explain how one can perform essential functions of the position listed above.
