Position Overview:

Schafer Gear Works in Roscoe, Illinois is currently seeking a CNC Hob Machinist to join our team. This role is ideal for experienced machinists who take pride in precision, efficiency, and craftsmanship.

The CNC Hob Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and conventional machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic components. You will ensure quality and productivity by resolving machine issues and optimizing performance throughout each shift.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation:

  • Set up and operate CNC hob and related machinery based on work orders and specifications
  • Load/unload parts and install appropriate tooling, chucking devices, and jaws
  • Adjust machine controls and offsets for accurate dimensions and tolerances
  • Monitor tooling conditions and replace worn tools as necessary

Quality Control:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specification sheets
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet exact requirements
  • Maintain detailed records and comply with all quality and ISO standards
  • Complete Schafer’s internal quality certification for assigned tasks

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and resolve machine malfunctions
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to solve machining problems
  • Recommend improvements for tooling and productivity

Support for Operational Excellence:

  • Reduce machine downtime through efficient setups and preparation
  • Assist with training, communication between shifts, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace in accordance with the 6S program

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in a CNC machining role preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents and blueprints
  • Comfortable using precision measuring tools and computer systems
  • Physically able to perform duties including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods
  • Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Working Environment:

  • Air-conditioned and heated manufacturing facility
  • Exposure to standard industrial conditions such as noise, dust, fumes, oils, and cleaning agents
  • On-site role performed 100% of the time unless otherwise directed by a supervisor
