Job Summary

This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.

May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson.

Requires the provision of official transcripts, licenses and/or certifications within (30) days of hire.

All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. Essential Duties

This position is responsible for instruction of CNC & machining courses and the safety & success of the students enrolled in the program. The Instructor will teach a variety of classes based on both manual and CNC lathes, mills and other equipment used in manufacturing.

In addition, the Instructor will assist with recruitment, program development and learning outcomes.
  • Perform classroom and laboratory instruction on the safe uses of manual and CNC machining equipment to a diverse population of students at various times and locations
  • Assist in maintaining the safe operation of equipment in machine shop
  • Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as needed to maintain any workforce credential that might be offered through specific machining classes.
  • Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution
  • Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
  • Advise students in academic and employment matters through posted office hours and electronic communication
  • Assess students' performance through a range of measurement activities and keep them informed of their progress in a timely manner
  • Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives
  • Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions and departments
  • Provide recommendations to the Director of Industrial Programs, Dean of CEWD, and appropriate college committees regarding curriculum, instruction and division operations
  • Adhere to Alvin Community College's policies and procedures
  • Attend institutional meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent typically works in a classroom environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of a classroom. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience as a journeyman, or equivalent title, as a Machinist and CNC Operator.
  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and navigate student registry systems.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization, from entry level students to senior level management.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, their supervisor, and with industry partners.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain detailed classroom records and reports relating to course instruction.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching.
  • ACC Instructor's will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivated.
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per week
  • Must be flexible and understands a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, student enrollment and/or program needs
