SUMMARY:The Machinist II position performs combinations of the following areas, as required: &nbsp;<ul><li>Set up, operate, or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal or plastic material.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend drilling machines to drill, bore, ream, mill, or countersink metal or plastic work pieces.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend lathe and turning machines to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal or plastic materials, such as wire, rod, or bar stock.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend milling or planing machines to mill, plane, shape, groove, or profile metal or plastic work pieces.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.</li></ul> QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:<ul><li>High School Diploma or GED</li><li>Graduation from technical school program preferred</li><li>Minimum two years of related experience</li></ul> LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS:<ul><li>&nbsp;Journeyman Certification preferred (or)</li><li>Apprentice Status preferred &nbsp;</li></ul>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:<ul><li>Technical knowledge of machine operations/functions</li><li>CNC machining</li><li>Familiar with Preventative Maintenance Program adherence</li></ul> WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The position requires frequent long periods of standing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Machinist II positions may be responsible for some or all of the duties listed here.<ul><li>Study machining instructions, job orders, or blueprints to determine dimensional or finish specifications, sequences of operations, setups, or tooling requirements.</li><li>Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools, according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.</li><li>Establish zero reference points on work pieces, such as at the intersections of two edges or over hole locations.</li><li>Position and secure work pieces on tables, using bolts, jigs, clamps, shims, or other holding devices. </li><li>Observe drilling or boring machine operations to detect any problems.</li><li>Lift work pieces onto work tables either manually, with hoists or gantry crane to lift and position work pieces.</li><li>Measure completed work pieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or scales.</li><li>Examine completed work pieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal or plastic material.</li><li>Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.</li><li>Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades, or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.</li><li>Clean and lubricate machines.</li><li>Start lathe or turning machines and observe operations to ensure that specifications are met.</li><li>Select cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to written specifications or knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.</li><li>Crank machines through cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.</li><li>Observe milling or planing machine operation and adjust controls to ensure conformance with specified tolerances.</li><li>Verify alignment of work pieces on machines, using measuring instruments such as scales, gauges, or calipers.</li><li>Replace worn tools, using hand tools, and sharpen dull tools, using bench grinders.</li><li>Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.</li><li>Activate machine start-up switches to grind, lap, hone, deburr, shear, or cut workpieces, according to specifications. &nbsp;</li></ul>QUALIFYING STATEMENT: &nbsp;Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
