The operator is responsible for operating controls, setting offsets, editing programs, some deburring, and performing self-inspection of parts in-process and upon completion for conformance to requirements. The Operator will also use large overhead cranes and other large equipment. Primary responsibilities: <ul> <li>Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.</li> <li>Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.</li> <li>Calculate where to cut or bore.</li> <li>Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.</li> <li>Determine how fast or slow work piece is fed into machine.</li> <li>Determine how much material to remove.</li> <li>Select tools and materials for the job.</li> <li>Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.</li> <li>Mark the work piece to show where cuts should be made.</li> <li>Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.</li> <li>Monitor and control feed rate and speed.</li> <li>Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.</li> <li>Regulate temperature of work piece.</li> <li>Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.</li> <li>Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.</li> <li>Monitor the accuracy of cuts.</li> <li>Replace dull cutting tools.</li> <li>Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.</li> <li>Produce large quantities of parts.</li> <li>Determine how automated equipment will cut a part.</li> <li>Determine cutting path.</li> <li>Concert path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool.</li> <li>Use manual and computer-controlled machinery.</li> <li>Write basic programs.</li> <li>Modify programs in response to problems.</li></ul>Qualifications and Experience <ul> <li>Minimum of five years' experience on CNC Horizontal Boring Mills, Lathes, and Grinders, and proficiency with large-part machining and blueprint reading; with the understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.</li> <li>CNC programming experience a plus.</li> <li>Must be able to perform own setups, measure parts that consistently result in precision quality parts.</li> <li>Large overhead crane experience and move large work pieces.</li> <li>Must be able to edit G and M-codes, trouble shoot jobs and make adjustments as required.</li> <li>Strong shop mathematics (trigonometry) aptitude and the ability to use precision measuring instruments (calipers, mics and other gauges).</li> <li>Must have the ability to use a feed and speed chart or calculator to determine appropriate feeds, speeds, and depths of cut.</li> <li>Understanding of metal properties and appropriate cutting tools.</li> <li>SEIMENS 840D AND G&amp;L 800 control experience a plus.</li> <li>Positive attitude required; dependable, self-starter and the willingness to help others.</li> <li>Ability to work in a large manufacturing environment and performs well with minimal supervision.</li> <li>Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation.</li></ul>
