Position Summary The Machining Associate I operate CNC machines to manufacture metal parts and materials. The Machining Associate I maintain CNC machines and related equipment in a process ensuring that systems run smoothly with assistance from on-site leadership. The Machining Associate I must have an eye for detail. In addition, they're responsible for escalating issues to the appropriate level if problems arise while operating the machine. DESCRIPTION: The CNC Machinist will perform accurate and timely set-ups utilizing Mazak vertical mill. Proficient in accurate change-over of machine set-ups. Ensure conformance to customer requirements using calibrated measuring equipment and visual inspection. Record and comprehend company work instructions and set-up books. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: <ul><li>Setup and operate Mazak, Haas, and Makino vertical mills for production operation.</li><li>Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as needed.</li><li>Responsible for DNC communications, downloading tool programs.</li><li>Inspect and measure parts according to set-up book inspection callouts.</li><li>Monitor and replace tools in accordance with tool life management system, document all tool changes.</li><li>Ensure company procedures and "best machining practices" are being followed.</li><li>Perform additional related duties as assigned.</li><li>Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.</li></ul>EDEUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: <ul><li>Minimum 5 years CNC vertical milling experience in a manufacturing environment, performing setups, troubleshooting issues. </li><li>Demonstrated ability at operating CNC Machines and interpreting G &amp; M codes.</li><li>Changing cutting tools and accurately adjusting offsets.</li><li>Ability to set-up jobs independently.</li><li>Ability to read part drawings, apply GD&amp;T concepts and rules to understand geometric requirements.</li><li>Ability to correctly use and interpret measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, thread gages, chamfer gages, pin gage, test indicators, drop indicators, height gages, optical comparators.</li><li>Implement 6S concepts.</li><li>Basic computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook.</li><li>Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing preferred.</li><li>Visual inspection experience preferred.</li><li>Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li></ul>PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB: <ul><li>Standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts; reaching with hands and arms and overhead; talking and/or hearing instructions and sounds.</li><li>Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.</li><li>Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</li><li>Ability to differentiate shades and color to identify coating defects.</li><li>Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading dial and digital gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of coating operations.</li></ul>WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB: <ul><li>Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.</li></ul><ul><li>Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.</li><li>High noise levels from operating machines.</li><li>Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.</li><li>The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials commonly used in a manufacturing environment.</li></ul>Hours--Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-12am.
